Project description

The project is implemented by Complexul Muzeal Național ”Moldova” of Iași, Romania in partnership with Espacio Rojo, of Spain, CPA di Giuseppina Bomba of Italy, Ethniko Kentro Erevnas Kai Diasosis Sholikou Ylikou of Greece, SC Beacon Wave SRL-D of Romania, Insieme Per Camminare, of Italy, Fundacion Uxio Novoneyra of Spain, weltgewandt. Institut für Interkulturelle Politische Bildung, of Germany, Österreichisches Museum für Volkskunde, of Austria.

The general objective of the project is to UNLOCK the potential of museum mediators/ mentors as key facilitators and integrators of disadvantaged learners.

Many museums and cultural-educational organizations are not particularly ready to deal with people with special needs, whatever the nature of this need – medical, social, cultural etc.
Moreover, our aim is to promote the integration of people with special needs in cultural – educational activities.

In order to do so, there is first the need to create a set of tools that would be available for such end-users and to involve and train the museum mediators/ mentors and
cultural specialists into the creation and usage of such tools and the inclusive methods they should apply so that the interaction with such disadvantaged learners is inclusive and
integrative.

The project will involve transnational cooperation because such learners exist everywhere, therefore in all countries involved in the project, although the level of recognition of
this situation may be different from one geographical-administrative reality to another and this is how we will share information and learn from each other’s experiences.
In order to be innovative and representative, the project UNLOCLK needs to address contemporary issues and the expression of identities and needs of disadvantaged groups in
museums (from people with various disabilities, to minority groups, to socially/ culturally excluded) at a wider scale, and from this perspective providing opportunities for dialogue is
critical.
